ONE of our first entrants in the Lions/Talk of the Town Miss Port Alfred 2012 competition is 17-year-old Port Alfred resident, Samantha Webster.

Samantha is a studious young woman who has a clear idea of what she would like to achieve should she successful in the competition.

"I would like to do things to help the youth,” she said. "There is such a problem with drugs and alcohol in this area. We need to organise events to give kids and young adults an alternative to experimenting with drugs.”

Samantha is home-schooled and is studying toward attaining her matric certificate next year. One of six children, her passion is music, whether she is playing guitar or piano, or singing. Samantha feels her future lies in a musical career and is currently contemplating attending college or university when she finishes school and training to become a music teacher.

After breaking her ankle playing hockey almost 18 months ago, Samantha has focussed more on her music than on sport.

"My favourite musical artists are David Garret who is an excellent violinist, and singer Adele,” she told TotT.

With regard to her vision for the future, Samantha said she was concerned with the amount of violence in the world at present.

"War can never be a good thing. There should be better communication and opposing sides should be forced to sit around a table and discuss the problems rather than resorting to violence and killing,” said Samantha.
