Nemato school helps soup kitchen

KUYASA Combined School's vegetable gardens are doing so well they were able to donate some produce to the Port Alfred Soup Kitchen last Thursday.

The main object of the gardens was to supplement the meals they make at school for the pupils. In the larger garden they are growing spinach, lettuce, beetroot, cauliflowers and cabbage and in the smaller garden they have just spinach and beetroot. The pupils help by watering the plants.

Senior phase coordinator Zamnxolo Quma said this is not the first charity organisation they have helped, but that they had given vegetables to Hospice as well.

Kuyasa will be giving the soup kitchen vegetables on a regular basis, and in turn the soup kitchen will give them advice on how to make the best use of their garden and try to get some tools for them.

"It is a great thing to be getting vegetables, and hopefully we can help them to,” said soup kitchen chairman Helmut Hartleb.
