THOUSANDS of cyclists from around the country will descend on the Bay during the first weekend in February to test their ability during The Herald VW Cycle Tour.
The weekend kicks off with the mountain bike events (MTB) on Saturday February 4, followed by the road events on the Sunday.
If you have not already registered for one of the 11 events, time is ticking by as entries close on January 30.

The MTB races, which takes place at Addo, consists of five events, the 80km Extreme, 60km Adventure, 30km Powerade Leisure Challenge, 5km Powerade Kiddies Challenge and the 500m Toddlers’ Dash. The events will start and finish at the Addo Polo Club from 6am, with the prize-giving rounding off the day at noon.
The road events take place at Hobie Beach.
The six different events include 105km Classic, 70km Pursuit, 40km Challenge , 2km Powerade Kiddies’ Ride, 500m Powerade Toddlers’ Dash and the 21km Powerade Leisure Ride.
The 105km main event will start the day’s proceedings at 6am. The final prize-giving will take place at 1pm in The Boardwalk Race Village, Hobie Beach.
Cyclists participating in the 105km, 70km and 40km road races will require a Cycling South Africa licence.
A day licence costs R35 per day. A two-day licence is required for those riding both the MTB and road races.
Children under 10 years old may only participate in the kiddies’ events and children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
Tandem entries must be submitted together, but on two separate forms.
The race entry fees for the events range from R30 to R180.
An additional 50% late fee will be charged for the MTB-80km and 60km Adventure races and the 105km Classic and 70km Pursuit road races.
Prizes include R50000 from Tony’s Furnishes, appliances and beds for in household appliances as well as a MTB and Road bike valued at R40000 sponsored by Cyclo Pro and GT.
One lucky participant will win a VW Polo Vivo worth over R100 000 in a lucky draw.
