ENTERTAINMENT guru Thanduxolo Jindela has landed a slot as a gossip monger on one of Umhlobo Wenene FM's popular shows.
Port Elizabeth-born Jindela, 33, now based in Johannesburg, joined popular DJ Mthobeli "KC" August on his show The Afternoon Drive early this year.
He has the lavish, but "risky" job of attending red-carpet functions and checking out what celebrities get up to, what they wear and whom they hang out with at those events.
"I feature on the show twice a week and I appear as 'Chang the Dilemma'. My job is to basically fill in Umhlobo Wenene listeners on what is going on in the entertainment scene."
His job, he says, gets him in hot water at times as he dishes out dirt on celebrities.
"Some celebs don't want to hang out with me. They simply run away when they see me because they know what my job at Umhlobo Wenene is about."
Jindela, who works as music label manager at Beyonce Records, has been in the entertainment industry for nine years. He landed his big break in 2006 when he managed Port Elizabeth Afro jazz band Fohloza and Kwaito artist Mzambia.
"I came to Joburg to finish my diploma in Performing Arts at the Market Theatre. My inspiration to go into the arts came from Marlene Pieterse of Stageworld Theatre School, who groomed me and made me to be the person I am today. She actually took out the shyness in me."
Going into the arts is something his peers frowned upon when he was growing up.
"I wanted to play rugby, but I couldn't because I was too thin. Then I decided to join Stageworld and my friends laughed at me and said doing drama was so gay. But that did not bother me because I was enjoying it."
Apart from skinnering and working as a label manager, Jindela does public relations work for artists and events, most recently the Soweto Festival.
