IT'S only 11 days to go for the biggest and best motor fair ever to hit the Bay. This year's The Herald World of Wheels Nelson Mandela Bay Motor Fair on December 1 is setting new benchmarks for motor fairs in the country and is attracting nationwide interest.
Only in its second year, the event has attracted many cars, both old and new, as well as celebrities and a world-class auction of classic and sports cars.
Among the celebrities will be Roger McCleery, veteran TV motorsport and radio broadcaster, and one-time motorbike racer.
McCleery will be on hand during day to comment and describe cars that take part in the drive past during the day's proceedings.
A number of TV stations have shown an interest and will be featuring the event.
Bert Scheepers, a spokesman for the organisers of the motor fair – House of Classic and Sports Cars – says things are hotting up with an increasing number of inquiries relating to the auction being received.
"A new addition to the list, is a 1929 Chev Phaeton with disc wheels, bumpers and slightly slanted, non-glare windscreen.
"She's a real beauty and sure to attract a lot of interest. Other vehicles on offer include a 1936 Ford V8 Roadster, Mercedes 600 SL, 1958 MGA Roadster, MGTD, 1934 Plymouth, 1948 Studebaker, 1948 Nash Ambassador, 1958 Triumph TR3, 1964 Renault Dauphine, 1932 Plymouth and MGB GT.
The House of Classic and Sports Cars based in Knysna do not only specialise in vintage, veteran, classic and sports cars. There is also highly qualified staff, trained on Porsche and Mercedes, on hand to service and repair a wide variety of these up market vehicles.
They have particular experience in a full range of repairs and services to all makes of Porsche, using only Porsche-supplied parts.
Through their association with the Eastern Province Veteran Car Club, the organisers have been contracted to conduct the auctions which will be done to the highest standards, following the pattern set by such events as held at Pebble Beach in Monterey, California.
The stage is set for an exciting event, with various charities benefiting as recipients of the lion's share of the auctioneer's commission.
