Health chiefs back down in bid to get doctors back

THE Eastern Cape Health Department apologised yesterday to doctors previously labelled as "unpatriotic" and publicly committed itself to solving some problems plaguing the Port Elizabeth Hospital Complex.

The department is also trying to rehire some of the medical specialists who resigned last week and who were heavily criticised by a Bhisho official.

Senior health spokesman Siyanda Manana also said the department had appointed 15 new doctors and two registrars.

The new staff received letters of appointment yesterday. One has already started work and the others will start next month.
