Uitenhage man killed by train

A 44-year-old Uitenhage man has been killed after allegedly being hit by a train close to Algoa Road late yesterday afternoon (19/12/2012).

According to police reports the train driver noticed an obstruction on the tracks on Wednesday (19/12/2012) at about 18:00.

As the train moved closer the driver realised that it could be a person lying on the tracks and braked, but could not stop immediately. The train came to a halt after hitting the man. His hand was severed and he died immediately.

The man was identified as Mzawandile Dandashe who lived in an informal shack close to the railway line.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
