Cunningham to remain in custody

THE Port Elizabeth bodybuilder who allegedly broke into his girlfriend’s home before beating her unconscious, will stay behind bars for now. Brent Cunningham, 21, will have a chance to apply for bail on January 10.

He made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, but the case was postponed after the state indicated it would oppose bail due to Cunningham’s previous conviction for assault.

The formal bail hearing will now be heard next week, which gives Cunningham time to instruct an attorney.
