Festive season splurge

AS the festive season comes to an end, Nelson Mandela Bay's tourism and hospitality industry is celebrating an economically successful period.

With the weather playing ball, for the most part, the Bay was definitely the place to be, with visitors coming from all over South Africa,other African countries and overseas.

Although final figures are not yet available, all indications are that the retail and hospitality establishments coined it over the holidays, with accommodation already 90% full at the end of last month.

With the festivities starting earlier this year and ending later than last year, the tourism industry – which had taken a bit of a knock the past few years – received a big boost.

Nelson MandelaBay Tourism chief executive Mandlakazi Skefile said while she could not accurately compare this year to last year, the tourism sector had done very well this season.
