MATRIC PASS RATE IMPROVES

WE must stop fooling ourselves. The pass rate is only up because standards have been lowered again.

ANONYMOUS

THE matric pass rate is too high, not too low. It's the standard that's too low.

DOC

WOW, 73.9% matric pass rate. I wonder how many pupils achieved a 40- plus pass. Figures can lie. Well done to those who got a legitimate pass, not 30%.

ZUMA'S CONTROVERSIAL COMMENT ON DOGS

IF I had to choose between Jacob Zuma and a dog, my answer would be a no-brainer. Here's a clue: it would be the one that has a natural coat.

PEGGYANNE FELL

"ZUMA affirms African stereotypes": Unathi Dulwana, apart from the refreshing logic of your message, I must commend you on such a well written letter.

CRAIG

JZ, we know you keep dozens of lapdogs at the Nkandla kennels and feed them from the gravy train!

MAKE THE HERALD A TABLOID

I AM an invalid with minimum use of my hands. The Christmas issue was easier to read for invalids. Please change the size of the daily issues for us.

DW

I AGREE, a smaller paper is much easier! Thank you for a separate crossword page!

NO BAIL AFTER GIRLFRIEND BEATEN

BRENT Cunningham should be released to the hardened criminals at St Albans to get what he deserves! Lock him up and throw the key away.

MICHELLE

BRENT should be put behind bars and an example made of him. That charge should not be assault but attempted murder.

DISGUSTED

HIS dad should have not withdrawn his case.

OBSERVER

CUNNINGHAM, you make OJ look stupid. Why is it this time assault, not attempted murder?

SIC

THIS aggressive young man should have been behind the bars long time ago. The law of this country is an embarrassment.

BULI JAMES, PORT ELIZABETH

PLEASE spare a thought for the Cunningham family before making nasty remarks!

SADDENED

THE big boys in St Albans are going to laugh their heads off at Brent Cunningham in the showers because we all know what steroids do to your other muscle.

MARK

IT'S time to put Brent Cunningham behind bars and this time the judge must not listen to stories by a lawyer.

WHO'LL SUPPORT CUP IF BAFANA DROP OUT?

BAFANA Bafana will fall out in the first round of the Afcon Cup. Will all the stadiums still be full of supporters?

REPLIES TO READERS' COMMENTS

RADIO stations: I agree with C Botha. Give Daron Mann and Wayne Hart the 12 to 3am slot.

MIKE

RAT, would you have preferred a miniskirt and push-up bra? Caster Semenya is a sportswoman and she means business, hence the suit.

SPORT WATCHER

CHRISTIAN Martin, MPL and ANC whip, continues to entertain us with his drivel. The government is not funding schools.

WHAT HAPPENED TO PLAYERS' NAMES?

THE Herald January 3 and 4 cricket scoreboard was short of players. Where were BJ Watling (day one), and Dale Steyn (day two)?

AF

SOUTH Africa declared at the fall of Robin Peterson's wicket so Steyn did not come out to bat and therefore his name was not on the batting scorecard. Watling's omission was an error. – The Herald sports editor Alvin Reeves

HIGH WINDS WREAK HAVOC IN BAY

WOW, a level three hurricane wind in Port Elizabeth – 179km/h.

RP

THE winds caused havoc at a building in Five Ways. The roof sheets were still blowing off on Friday. Residents were in the street from Thursday. Please assist these people.

NEIGHBOUR

I HAVE clothes to donate. Where can I take them?

BUILD HOUSES FOR THE PEOPLE

OUR government must build houses for the people. The leaders must stop talking and act.
