THE number of car break-ins in Port Elizabeth escalated over the festive season, with more than three a day reported in the city.

The beachfront was a hotspot for the crime between December 25 and January 6, with most of the reported cases occurring there, according to the police. The number of break-ins rose dramatically – up 16 from last year's 27 reported cases over the same period.

Only two arrests have been made so far in connection with the break-ins.
