200 angry residents protest bail

09 January 2013
MORE than 200 angry residents protested outside the Port Alfred Magistrate's Court demanding that a murder suspect not be granted bail.

Xolile Sukula, 32, appeared in court for the second time yesterday in connection with the murder of Nontsikelelo Jauka, 42.

Port Alfred Women's Forum member Noli Mani said residents did not want Sukula in their community as he was dangerous.

"It all started on November 26 2012 when Jauka, a cousin to the former mayor of Mdlambe, Vukile Balurha, was brutally murdered at her home. It was later discovered that she was [allegedly] murdered by her cousin's ex-boyfriend, who is the suspect today," she said. "We do not want him to be granted bail."

Police spokesman Lieutenant Luvuyo Mjekula said Sukula was denied bail and his case was postponed to January 29. – Yoliswa Sobuwa
