Park theatre left in the dark

FOR the second year in a row, the annual Shakespearean Festival – which has been held at the Mannville Open Air Theatre in St George's Park for 40 years – is moving indoors.

The popular venue has been left in the dark after the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality replaced an old electricity connection box with one that was not connected.

The move, which comes after last year's festival was moved to the Opera House because of vandalism and cable theft, has angered the show's organisers who had to come up with a plan B.

Shakespeare Society president Rocky Mann said the uncertainty over electricity supply had forced them to move this year's Hamlet to the Pemads Little Theatre in Belmont Terrace, Central.
