Man assaulted by police wins damages claim

A MAN who was badly assaulted by police after they rebuked him for allowing his son to carry alcohol in the street has won a damages claim against them.

So badly was Anthony Modikoe beaten with a cricket bat and baton, kicked and burnt with a cigarette that a witness at the police station where he was being held heard him desperately screaming and begging for forgiveness.

Modikoe, who was handcuffed during the assault, sustained a fractured ankle and elbow.
