A 19-YEAR-OLD Nelson Mandela Bay woman was killed in what police suspect was a wind-induced accident near Greenbushes, outside Port Elizabeth, early yesterday.
Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said Vivian Philander, 19, died on the N2 highway shortly after 7am.
Philander was a passenger in a relatively rare Volkswagen Karmann Ghia car, which was driven by her 24-year-old sister, whose first name was not available from police.
The driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle.
Janse Van Rensburg said while the exact cause of the accident had not yet been established, police officers responding to the incident believe that strong winds at the time may have played a role.
The sisters were travelling towards Port Elizabeth when the accident took place. The surviving sister was taken to the Livingstone Hospital where she was treated for "light injuries".
Janse van Rensburg said Philander lived on a plot on the Draaifontein Road in the Greenbushes area.
Police have opened a culpable homicide docket.
