OH, WHAT fun, the Blame Game has begun. Despite all opposition to using tax payers’ money (which we could ill afford) to host Afcon, the council pushed it through.
Mzimkhulu Fina has lashed out at the LOC for lack of branding (surely they should have woken up to this fact last year, not nine days before the event). Andile Ndengezi blames the mayor because of infighting within the ANC!
As a last resort, in order to fill the stadium, free tickets will be distributed in order to fill the stadium to "prove” what a success this fiasco has been.
At the end of the day, our city will suffer even further – just look around and see how run down it is looking: the verges are becoming jungles the grass is so high. Paving that was laid in time for the Fifa World Cup is now overgrown with weeds, and we won’t even mention the potholes. The Dora Nginza casualty unit has been forced to close and so it goes, on and on.
When will the population of this city wake up and vote this inept council out? Just because we have a president who can’t cope, doesn’t mean that we all have to accept mediocrity.
BRENDA GALLOWAY, Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth
