DURING the December holidays I saw something that made me proud to be from Uitenhage.
And today I want to pay tribute to the heroes of Uitenhage, who are the ones who show us what it really means to be bigger than the situation – and not just sit still, when something can be done.
John F Kennedy said it’s not what your country can do for you, it’s what you can do for your country. With those words I want to say it is what you guys are doing for Uitenhage, and we as the residents of Uitenhage should be proud to have people who still care enough to make this town as beautiful as it was before.
My message to all in Uitenhage is to take note and assist where we can to make this town as beautiful as its name – the Garden Town – indicates.
We should leave a legacy for our children and grandchildren.
Let us start with ourselves and stop throwing our rubbish anywhere, and put it in the bins and allocated areas. Only when we stand together, can we do this.
To the municipality of the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro: These guys also need your support and if there is any hope of doing this you need to get involved in the project.
Do it for the town, the metropole, the province and the country.
This way we will attract more visitors to the province and the city of Nelson Mandela Bay.
I salute the heroes of Uitenhage for going out of their way to do just what we need in this town.
Stanley Arends, Uitenhage
