Makhaphela is set to bolster Warriors batting

16 January 2013

THE Chevrolet Warriors have bulked up their opening batsmen stock by including promising Border player Vuyisa Makhaphela in their squad for their Sunfoil Series cricket match against the Knights in Bloemfontein tomorrow.

The opening position has been one of concern for some time and various combinations have been tried.

Makhaphela, 25, has been a solid performer for Border this season. He faces a nervous wait ahead of the starting XI announcement at the team meeting today, but if he gets a chance he will be one of several players chosen to represent the Warriors from franchise neighbours Border and South Western Districts.

Christiaan Jonker and Adrian McLaren, both of SWD, have been useful at various times for the Warriors while Border's Aya Gqamane has been the find of the season.

The Warriors, in second place on the log, will be looking to pressurise the Cobras and third-placed Lions by winning at least two of their remaining three matches.

The squad is: Michael Price, Davy Jacobs (capt), Arno Jacobs, Ashwell Prince, Colin Ackermann, Christiaan Jonker, Adrian McLaren, Simon Harmer, Andrew Birch, Aya Gqamane, Basheer Walters, Vuyisa Makhaphela, Gurshwin Rabie
