The 2013 awards season unofficially begins with the annual ceremony in Los Angeles. This year the younger actresses outshone their older peers with their fresh take on fashion in many instances, even though they might not have nabbed the acting gongs.
The cast of Modern Family were disappointed not to take home an award but did win fashion points with "sisters” Sarah Hyland and Ariel Winter as glam as TV "mom” Julie Bowen and "aunt” Sofia Vergara. Hyland rubbed shoulders with other rising stars Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale and newly single Selena Gomez at the In Style After Party. Although all four became Hollywood and television stars for playing high-schoolers, none is still in her teens with Gomez, 20, the youngest, followed by Hyland, 22, Hudgens, 24, and Tisdale, 27.
Hyland made a memorable Golden Globes appearance two years ago when the zip of her dress broke. This year she took no chances with a more classic Max Azria strapless gown for the ceremony and a flirtier Pavoni cocktail number for the after party. Red ruled the ramp with at least eight actresses – including show co-hostess Amy Poehler – wearing this shade. Homeland star Claire Danes wore a plunging scarlet Versace gown just one month after giving birth.
Black, white and nudes were still hot. The ice-cream pastel theme worked for Jessica Chastain (Best Actress in a drama, and Anne Hathaway (Best Actress in a comedy or musical) – Chastain in softly draped mint Givenchy, and Hathaway in white Chanel.
