East Cape ANC puts pen to paper

18 January 2013
Nwabisa Makunga

THE ANC in the Eastern Cape will tonight launch a book detailing its history of activism and triumph in a province at the heart of South Africa's fight for democracy. The book is compiled by ANC officials and academics and tells of the work of South African heroes, from King Hintsa ka Khawuta to Koisan chief David Stuurman, activist Lillian Diedericks to icon Nelson Mandela.

It highlights how ordinary people from the province fought to free the country from injustice.

"Part of the activities identified for our 100-year anniversary was telling our own history, purely and undistorted.

"We had to find space to talk about our unsung heroes," provincial party secretary Oscar Mabuyane said.
