THE business end of the Eastern Province cricket Super A League gets under way this weekend with four games taking place tomorrow.
Champions Mecer NMMU will only be in action from next week, but their main contenders – Maritime Motors Old Grey, Rotatrim PECC and SA Home Loans Union – will all be playing this weekend.
Old Grey will want to be at their best when they clash with a determined young Gelvandale side, who will be keen to cause an upset.
PECC also face a tricky outing against Northville at Finnis Street. Northville stormed through the latter stages of the first half of the league last year to qualify for the Super A Premier Top 10.
PECC have identified themselves as potential league winners by finishing runners-up to Old Grey in the first half, but they will need to offer consistent performances if they are to achieve that goal.
Union host Despatch in what could be an intriguing encounter.
Union, who will be hoping to go two better then their third place of last season, won the first half encounter by 35 runs, successfully defending 208 runs. Despatch have batsmen with the ability to hurt attacks and could pose a serious threat to the home side.
In the other game for the weekend, Uitenhage travel to face Heatherbank in what promises to be another tight affair.
