Highbury score three free points

PORT Elizabeth soccer team Highbury collected three easy points without kicking the ball after their Safa Eastern Cape Second Division League opponents arrived late to honour their clash at the NMMU Second Avenue campus sports field yesterday.

Highbury were billed to play against East London side OR Tambo DC, but the visitors arrived at the venue 45 minutes after the time the match was scheduled to start. The game was due to have kicked off 3pm.

The referee called the game off and the home side were awarded maximum points. Highbury coach Garth Dickinson said his charges would have earned those points even if the game had been played.

"It was a walkover because the visitors came late to the field. We are not happy with the situation because we wanted to defeat them on the field of play, but we will now focus on our next game," Dickinson said.
