EDMUND Drake and Wade Hoft emerged triumphant in a highly competitive Sunridge Doubles tennis tournament at PE Club on Saturday, defeating Helgard Zietsman and Andrew Stuart in the final.

The annual pipe-opener to the tennis year proved popular, with 76 entrants.

"Things went of really well," tournament organiser Ignis McLaren said yesterday. "More players were accommodated with three sections and up to 11 clubs represented."

Each section was divided into two pools, with the pool winners contesting the final.

Drake and Hoft beat the experienced Zietsman and Stuart 7-5 in a 12-game final.

In Section B, Muller Kopper and Louis van der Merwe took the honours, defeating Eric Eyre and Riaan Marais in the final.

Section C went to Gavin Cullen and Paul Golding, who saw off Werner Holtzhausen and Kobus Gerber in their deciding match.
