Drugs sting cash to be seized by AFU

DETAILS of secret meetings, a stand-off over drug money and desperate SMSes have emerged in papers before the Port Elizabeth High Court, where the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) has obtained an order allowing it to seize the cash used by a suspect to buy 1kg of cocaine during a sting operation.

Frank Edu Ibegbu is suspected of being a central figure in what is believed to be a highly organised syndicate recruiting drug mules in Central, Port Elizabeth.

Ibegbu, known on the streets of Port Elizabeth as Jessy, was arrested in May last year after he was trapped in an undercover operation when he agreed to buy 1kg of cocaine from two police officers who had convinced him they were corrupt.
