AN ANC councillor has accused the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality of setting Summerstrand homeowners up to fail by approving home renovations which can later be challenged in court.
This comes after Access Guest House owners Perapanjakam and Persotam Naidoo were ordered by the Port Elizabeth High Court to demolish their multimillion-rand guest house by February 20 or face jail.
Another Summerstrand guest house owner, Marais Ellis, was also ordered by the court in November to demolish Summer House guest house because the restrictive conditions on the title deed stated that it could only be used for residential purposes and that one house could be built for the use of one family.
This despite Ellis being granted approval to lift the restrictions by the municipality and Local Government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiyane.
