THE Herald and Bay FM are calling all readers and listeners to support The Herald Rafi's Friendly City Marathon, which will be held at Altona Primary School on Saturday.
Selwyn Willis of Bay FM, which has sponsored the event's community radio campaign, will start the races with the assistance of Paralympic gold medalist Ilse Carstens.
Carstens will visit Port Elizabeth to assist Retina SA – the Friendly City Marathon's beneficiary this year. The partially -sighted Paralympic gold and silver medalist will be hosting a pre-race breakfast at Walmer Golf Estate on Friday morning. The cost of the breakfast is R100 a person.
With new sponsor, Rafi's Appliance and Mattresses, backing the event, the Achilles organising team are aiming to attract a bumper turnout of runners .
Rafi's will hand over, among others, 14 superb appliance prizes, valued at more than R17 000.
The Herald Rafi's Friendly City Marathon includes a 42.2km marathon, a 10km race and a 5km Corporate Challenge and fun run. R5 of every R25 corporate entry fee will be donated to Retina SA.
The pre-race registration will take place at Rafi's in Newton Park on Friday from 5pm to 7pm.
