Former Springbok cricket captain Peter van Merwe passed away at his home in Port Elizabeth at 3am this morning at the age of 75. Van der Merwe suffered a severe stroke in May last year which left him badly incapacitated.
He captained South Africa in eight test matches between 1965 and 1967 leading the country to respective 1-0 and 3-1 series triumphs away to England and home to Australia.
