Inaction could lead to hospital cash returned to donor

MONEY for a high-profile medical project in Port Elizabeth is on the brink of being returned to an international funder – because the specialist ward it was to be used for is still not open.

Swiss non-profit organisation the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia Foundation provided R1-million towards the R20-million cost of a new haematology ward at the Provincial Hospital

But now, in an "embarrassing" development, the local Igazi Foundation, a driving force behind establishing the facility, said R650000 of the Swiss grant, announced in May, may have to be returned.
