FRUSTRATED Walmer township residents yesterday picketed outside the Walmer police station, demanding that crimes in the township be dealt with as thoroughly as those committed in wealthy former white suburbs.
The picket followed the discovery of 17-year-old Sindi Gamada's body at a graveyard behind Walmer township. She had been raped, then murdered on Sunday morning.
The community said they were angry at a lack of response from police and their tardiness in attending to serious crimes.
They said crimes committed against wealthy white residents were probed more thoroughly and far quicker than those committed in the townships.
