A HIGH-RANKING Nelson Mandela Bay prosecutor was allegedly almost four times over the legal limit when he was arrested for drunk driving more than a year ago, according to documents before court yesterday.

Clive Killian, a senior public prosecutor with the Justice and Constitutional Development Department, made a brief appearance in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's Court – where he is based – yesterday morning.

He is also in charge of the New Brighton, Gelvandale and St Albans courts, and oversees the work of the state prosecutors.

Killian's bail of R300 was extended.

Over a 1000 (ONE THOUSAND) a month dead on South African roads. Senior Public Prosecutor four times over legal limit. One year gone, R300 (THREE HUNDRED RAND) bail. And we wonder why we can't get on top of road fatalities? By now this trial should have been completed and, if found guilty - (the offence is still "alleged") - this potential murderer sitting in St Albans subject to a long sentence, with no prospect of ever getting a licence again.
