A bus has been petrolbombed and another shot at in Port Elizabeth as the ongoing strike by Algoa Bus Company drivers continues.
Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe said in the first attack, a bus driver was shot at on Sunday afternoon.
"Details are very sketchy – we do not know where the driver was coming from, but he drove straight to the New Brighton police station and was taken to Dora Nginza Hospital." The driver was treated for shock, she said.
The second attack occurred at 4.15am yesterday in Mavuso Street, Kwazakhele. "The driver was alone when a petrol-bomb was thrown into the bus. He was, fortunately, not injured," Gwe said.
Company chief executive Sicelo Duze condemned the attacks, saying the strikers were trying to intimidate nonstriking drivers.
