Water woes from unfixed meter leak - UPDATED

30 January 2013

Municipality fixes water pipe

AFTER a report in The Herald this week, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has fixed a water pipe leak which had cost a KwaDwesi, Port Elizabeth, man an extra R500 on his water bill every month since November.

Sipelo Goduka had reported the leak in the water pipe to the municipality in November last year without getting help.

THE municipality's alleged failure to respond to water leaks is costing a Port Elizabeth man R500 a month extra in water bills.

Sipelo Goduka, of KwaDwesi, claims he reported that his water meter was dripping non-stop to the municipality in November last year.

"They said they would attend to it. In December, I went back there. I think it was a week before their closure and they promised me they would attend to it and treat my case as an emergency," he said.

"The municipality is playing run- around with me and I am paying for their delay. Potholes have started to appear in the road because of this water running in the street. My front wall is getting damaged."

Im happy for Siphelo, that his pipe is finally fixed. Im disappointed in one thing thugh, that, why does the municipality all of a sudden take responsibility after they were exposed in The Herald Newspaper, and the newspaper has questioned the?Its so disturbing that the people in authority, should be forced to do their jobs, while they eat up our taxes....Anyway, i just want to send a thank you to The Herald Newspaper for thier positive interferrence.Keep making those "leaders" sweat.
