30 January 2013

A HELENVALE man accused of being a hit man who shot a rival dead in the middle of a busy road claims he was framed by gang members opposed to his efforts to stop the drug trade in his area.

Jermaine Baadjies, 31, has pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, attempted murder and the illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

The state's case is that on May 27 2009 he walked up to Angelo Hendricks, known in the area as Dakota, and shot him several times at point-blank range.

At the time, Hendricks was listening to pastor Brandon Olivier preaching in Kobus Road.

The trial before Judge Phakamisa Tshiki will continue today.
