Moving tributes to cricket legend Van der Merwe

THE life of cricket legend Peter van der Merwe was remembered during a moving ceremony held at St John's Anglican Church in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, yesterday.

Van der Merwe, 75, who was described as modest and down to earth, was a former Springbok cricket captain. He died at his Seaview home last Wednesday after he suffered a severe stroke.

The church was packed to capacity, with mourners coming from far and wide.
