WOULD you like to help a young girl’s career dreams come true? Vision4 Women is looking for Nelson Mandela Bay businesswomen – of any age and any race – who have time and skills to share with a matric girl during this school year.
"We are looking for mentors from diverse professional disciplines to help us mentor the girls,” project manager Gigi Mesani said.
"The mentors’ roles and responsibilities include a monthly meeting with the girls, and giving written feedback, or a portfolio, to Vision4 on what they cover.”
The matrics are invited to three weekend camps during the course of the year, which the mentor is also invited to attend.
Last year, mentors came from both the private and state sectors. Though the mentors and girls will be paired according to career dream as far as possible, anyone who can provide opportunities to explore career and life choices will be considered. Also, there is no payment on either side.
"They provide emotional support when needed, and communicate regularly, even if just to say ‘hi’,” said Mesani about the guidelines for mentors.
Interested mentors are asked to complete an application form, and will be screened at an informal interview at Vision4 Women’s offices in North End. Vision4 Women will conduct mentorship training with mentors.
