'Advocate Barbie' to stay in jail

30 January 2013
Cezanne Visser, the former advocate who became known as "Advocate Barbie”, has lost a second attempt to be released from prison, the SABC reported on Wednesday (30/01/2013).
Visser is serving a seven-year jail term for indecently assaulting young girls and women, for the manufacture and possession of child pornography, and for defrauding a children’s home.

On Friday, the correctional supervision and parole board turned down Visser’s request to convert her prison sentence to correctional supervision.

She started serving her sentence in May 2010 after the Supreme Court of Appeal dismissed an application for leave to appeal.

Visser brought a review application in the High Court in Pretoria after the parole board found, in August, that she was not a suitable candidate for the conversion of her sentence into correctional supervision.

According to the SABC, Judge Tati Makgoka set aside the decision and ordered the case management committee to prepare all relevant documentation, including reports by Visser’s social worker and psychologist, within 21 days.

He reportedly ordered the parole board to, before Thursday, again consider whether to recommend to the sentencing court that Visser was a suitable candidate for the conversion of her sentence to correctional supervision. - Sapa
