Chance for runners to view history

31 January 2013
ROADRUNNERS will have the opportunity of running past some of the oldest buildings in Port Elizabeth on Saturday when X-Cel Athletic Club hold their annual races.

Now in its 13th year, the Historical 10km road race, plus the 5km fun run, will take runners past landmarks in Bethelsdorp, including the Congregational Church, the clock tower, the alms house and the square, and through part of Du Toit's Kloof.

The race, which is an EP Participation League event, starts and ends at Bertram High in Bertram Road, Chatty.

The main race starts at 6.30am and the fun run at 6.45am. The cut-off time is 8.30am, with prize-giving at 9.30am.

Late entries will be accepted from 6-8pm tomorrow and from 5.30am on Saturday.

Entry fee is R30 for the 10km and R25 for the fun run. Unlicensed runners must pay an additional R25 for a temporary licence. Runners over 65 pay 50% of the race fee.

In addition to medals and cash prizes for the various categories, there will be the usual lucky draw. For inquiries, contact Dean Kivido (082-399-4722) or Eugene van Wyk (083-265-3224).
