Gqobana was branded a "risky" and "aggressive" politician who needed to be educated about running a government department.

Gqobana said Pillay was entitled to his views even though they were laughable. "I would like to warn Dr Pillay not to personalise government issues. He has been at the helm of the department for three years and during that time there were issues I had to correct myself because Pillay was not following the correct procedures," the MEC said.
