PORT Elizabeth needs an injection for it to be transformed and become a city which is able to compete with other coastal cities like Durban and Cape Town.
It is said Bloemfontein is negotiating with Disney to host an African version of the fun-land and if this happens, Port Elizabeth will be relegated fifth after the three usual suspects.
Even East London is surprisingly gaining ground on us. If they can get their act together regarding that treasure, the zoo, they can really be on their way to becoming one of the leading places to visit in South Africa.
In Port Elizabeth, the airport needs to be moved to Coega and the land where it is now should be given to the people of Walmer Township and a model of an RDP township be built.
Thereafter the harbour should also move entirely to Coega so that a majestic water-world (to rival uShaka Marine World one) can be built where the harbour is now, followed by a waterfront to rival Cape Town, Sydney and other cities around the world.
These renovations and small scale patching and fixes don't and won't result in a city that attracts and generates attention.
We need a water-world with whales (not just bottle-nose dolphins) and undersea attractions which we can view from glass tunnels to experience the wonders of the deep. The possibilities are endless, we just need innovation and investment.
