A VEIL of secrecy has been drawn over allegations of bribery in Port Elizabeth against Asamoah Gyan, the captain of Orange Africa Cup of Nations semifinalists Ghana.
Following his team’s 3-0 win over Niger in their Group B match at the Nelson Mandela Stadium last Monday, Gyan was accused of offering Koffi Dankwa, a defender for the Menas, more than R176 000 to throw the match.
Gyan and the Ghana Football Association have denied the allegations. They released a statement ahead of their quarterfinal clash against Cape Verde, which they won 2-0 at the same venue on Saturday, saying the accusations were "irresponsible, reckless and mischievous”.
