REGARDING Ed-u-College, I find it shocking that chief executive Lilian Niemann has managed to keep it going as an active school for as long as she has!
In the article ("Ed-U-College boss blasts Transnet,” January 31), she states that staff were paid and got bonuses! I would like to know which staff were actually paid on time, who were paid and who got bonuses? I know for a fact that five staff members were not paid in full and that was the reason for them not returning.
Of the staff I know, no one was paid a bonus!
This partial payment of salaries was a regular occurrence and a large number of staff have left over many years due to non payment of salaries!
I also find it mind blowing that she has managed to accumulate over R1-million-worth of debt just in rent, especially as the rent was down to R32 000 per month. The question arises: what happened to all the money coming in on a monthly basis?
If you use an average of R950 per child and there were, say, 900 pupils in the three schools, this gives you an income of R855 000 per month!
If you allow 10% for bad debt, there is still R769 500 and if you allocate R500 000 as an average for salaries, there is still R269 500 monthly left over to pay other costs – and there was a government grant paid as well!
The question is where has all the money gone?
Makes one think!
