Igesund hangs on to his job

GORDON Igesund will stay on at Bafana Bafana despite falling short of his objective. When he was appointed on a two-year contract as national soccer coach in June, Igesund was told Bafana had to at least reach the semifinals of the Orange Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon).

They fell agonisingly short on Saturday night, losing on penalties against Mali in the quarterfinals.

But Igesund has found many people forgiving. One of them is the president of the SA Football Association (Safa), Kirsten Nematandani.
