Nothing noble about gesture

CYNICAL or not, but I find nothing noble with Patrice Motsepe's donation of his money to "uplift the poor" ("Motsepe fortune set to uplift the poor", January 31).

His close proximity, like other overnight BEE billionaires, to the ANC and being vouched for by the likes of former presidents Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki to the largely opportunistic South African white capital has enriched them beyond delirium.

Nice public relations exercise though.
