Tensions rise after crime accusations

NEIGHBOURHOOD tensions are simmering following the murder last weekend of an elderly women in her Beverley Grove, Port Elizabeth, home.

The murder of 76-year-old Lorraine Shephard sparked a meeting of more than 120 Beverley Grove and Kragga Kamma residents with ward councillor Gustav Rautenbach on Saturday, where it was decided to re-establish a neighbourhood watch.

And while fingers have been pointed towards the nearby Grogro informal settlement for the rise in crime and lawlessness in the area, the Grogro residents have hit back. They say that not only are they not involved in crime, but they have had to put up with their suburban neighbours arriving in their cars to dump rubbish.
