Judge stops sale of Bay's Park Towers

07 February 2013
Estelle Ellis

THE sale of a section of the ill-fated Park Towers in Central has once again been stopped – this time by the Port Elizabeth High Court, when it turned out a section of the building had been subdivided into 110 flats without the knowledge of one of the owners.

The court this week cancelled the agreement of sale that would have seen part of the Rink Street building change hands once again – for R10.5-million.

In its heyday, Park Towers was an upmarket hotel in Port Elizabeth, until it was converted into a frail-care centre.

When the Echo Foundation ran into financial trouble the elderly residents were moved out.
