21-year-old Brent Cunningham was denied bail in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate’s Court on Thursday (07/02/2013).
Magistrate Gavin Juicy said Cunningham has a history of violence and it is the court's duty to protect society. He noted that it is not in the interest of justice to release him on bail.
Cunningham, who has a prior conviction for assault, is accused of savagely beating Shireen Ballan, 36, in Morningside on December 27. The Port Elizabeth man faces two charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm and common assault.
