Brent Cunningham 'a risk to the public'

THE final gavel was sounded on Brent Cunningham's bid for bail yesterday when the court ruled that it was not in the interest of justice to release him back into society.

The 21-year-old looked crestfallen as magistrate Gavin Juicy concluded his lengthy ruling, saying Cunningham posed a risk to the public and the witnesses in the case.

"You have a past history of violence and it is the duty of the court to protect society," Juicy said.

A red-faced Cunningham turned to his sister Trishke and best friend Gabbi Jenner, who were seated in the gallery. The two have supported him throughout the court battle.
