Sadtu stance frustrates teachers

TORN between the union she "loves so much" and the department that allows her to put food on the table for her children, a frustrated Nelson Mandela Bay primary school teacher says she wishes teaching was as simple as it used to be.

Fear could easily be read on the middle-aged teacher's face as she spoke of her frustration at being stuck in a school where she was not meant to be, while her rightful post lay vacant at another.

The teacher, who would not be identified for fear of intimidation, received a letter from the Education Department telling her to report for duty at a school in a developing RDP area, but her move was blocked by the SA Democratic Teachers' Union's (Sadtu) drive to disrupt the redeployment process.
