MECER NMMU2 will have their unbeaten record put to the test when they face Maritime Motors Old Grey in an EP Super A League Top 10 cricket fixture at the campus tomorrow.
Like Old Grey, NMMU2 have won all four of their opening matches in the race for the title.
Wins over SA Home Loans Union, Northville, Uitenhage and Gelvandale have placed the students' second team among the frontrunners.
But their mettle will be tested against much stronger opponents this weekend.
Whereas NMMU2 have registered tight wins, Old Grey have steamrolled all opposition in their path.
They are a powerful batting side and possess a decent bowling attack. The only side likely to give them a run for their money are the other unbeaten side for this half of the season, NMMU1.
The national student champions are in fifth position but have played (and won) only two games. Tomorrow they host Buco Uitenhage, who will be hard-pressed to win.
Fourth-placed Union face a tricky fixture against Northville at Finnis Street. Northville started with a fine win over PECC but have since slipped to two defeats and will be keen to get back to winning ways on home soil.
Union have not played to their potential in suffering back-to-back defeats against PECC and NMMU2, and will need to work extremely hard to bounce back this weekend.
PECC will have to be at their best to beat a young Gelvandale outfit.
