R8.4m in backing for Cup well spent, says municipality

THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has hailed the Orange Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) as an "enormous" economic success, a view generally shared by major hotels and some restaurants.

But there has also been criticism, particularly about attendance at matches, ticket sale bungles, complimentary tickets being given away late, and bad organisation.

Despite these concerns, metro economic development acting executive director Zolile Siswana says the R8.4-million municipal funding was money well spent.

How is it that before Afcon the Metro was looking for R30Mil for Afcon but now it is R 8.4M for same??
